 The Elephant in the Living Room 2011 EST

The five-year-on update to the Rise of the Machines.  This new publication charts the changes that have taken place in the domestic electrical product sector over that timescale and how the electricity demand for our most common appliances and gadgets is changing.  It also looks forward to 2020 to show what contribution the domestic appliances power demand could make to our 2020 emission reduction targets.

 

The ampere strikes back 2007 EST

A follow up to the massively successful Rise of the Machines, this publication focuses on the Consumer Electronics and Information & Communications Technology sectors and shows how they are taking the lead as the single largest energy consuming product category in the domestic home.

This critically acclaimed work charts the rise of energy using products in the home from the 1970s to the modern age.  It highlights the fact that although products and appliances have got more efficient over the decades, electricity use has doubled in the domestic sector over the same timescale.

This publication, from a highly respected group of UK based blue chip companies, highlights the threat of peak oil and its consequences for the UK industry and domestic sector. Paula Owen and Jamie Beevor contributed to the  chapter concerned with the demand needs of the domestic sector and how that demand could be managed.

Journeys of Discovery 1999 Earthwatch publication
 
This book maps the journeys and adventures undertaken by Millennium Fellowship Award winners who participated in Earthwatch scientific expeditions around the world.  Paula Owen, after her own Millennium expedition to the Gobi Desert, Inner Mongolia, suggested a book be produced to celebrate people's experiences.  Paula co-edited the resulting publication.
